BrainSTARS February 2014 Calendar

Dear Friend of BrainSTARS!

February 28th is celebrated as National Science Day every year in our country. It marks the discovery of the Raman Effect by Sir C V Raman on 28 Feb 1928.

The focal theme of 2014 is ‘ Fostering Scientific Temper’. What is Scientific Temper? It can be described as a way of looking, observing, questioning, testing, analysing, experimenting and being open to new changes. It is ‘a search for truth and new knowledge’ as our erstwhile Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru put it. It is also one of the fundamental duties of Indian citizens.

We thought for our February calendar it would be apt to look anew at a creature that lives in our house and evokes mixed feelings in us. Yes, we applied some amount of scientific temper on the lizard and we are wonderfully surprised with our results. Have a look!

This series of calendars is conceived by our team and designed by the excellent people at Lady Fingers.

    Dear friends of BrainSTARS
Summer has blazed into Bangalore and we are witnessing temperature soar in a way we would have never imagined possible in this garden city. It has raised many questions about the nature of our relationship with our environment and the kind of city we are leaving for the younger generations.
However, we don’t want to be killjoys either. We want our children to have wonderful summer memories and there is no better way to do it than the BrainSTARS way – science it up or maths it up!
We have taken one of summer’s best fruits – watermelon – and maths it up a bit with a little help from the good old bucket. If you can answer Kudums’ question in our May calendar, we have a surprise gift for you. The first five correct entries win one surprise gift each. That’s what we call good summer fun!
Go to our facebook page (facebook.com/brainstars), like it if you still haven’t liked it, recommend it to five friends, give us the right answer in the comments section of our facebook photo post of this calendar and you are all set to win!
