“The reason for sneezing in a city like Bangalore is usually a reaction to the dust pollution; but have you wondered what the science behind the routine act of sneezing could be?
If one were to sneeze in slow motion, here is the sequence of events:
- A tickling sensation prompting nerve endings to send a signal to the brain that something annoying the nasal lining needs to be expelled
- A deep inhalation resulting in brief tightening of chest muscles
- An increase in air pressure in the lungs
- Finally, a strong and reflexive expulsion of breath through the nose
For our July calendar, our mascot Kudums – who has a monsoon cold, takes a look at the sneezing phenomenon in a fun yet scientific manner, and the facts are astounding.
A sneeze can travel at a speed of 160 km per hour and the wet spray can radiate five feet in distance. Did you know this speed is greater than the speed of the Shatabdi express?
This series of calendars is conceived and designed by our team.”
